About Us

Close to the Bone is Mary and Darryl ... well, mostly Mary.

We opened this shop to be a small neighbourhood butcher shop with the purpose of providing high quality, locally raised meats at a fair price.

Our shop is modelled after butcher shops from years gone by. We do standard and custom cuts of beef, pork and lamb, as well as chickens, turkeys and a variety of in-house sausages. We do not do prepared foods.

Some things to keep in mind when you come by:

Never assume that something is not there if you do not see it in our display counters. Speak up. Ask.

We are not chefs. We do love to cook, and are very knowledgeable when it comes to cooking and cooking techniques and, of course, meat. If we have sold out of what you were looking for ask us for an alternative cut. Our customers have been pleasantly surprised with the results.

If you need a special something, please order it with as much advanced notice as possible. We deal exclusively with small farms, and our animals come in once a week. We do not have an infinite supply, so once a body part is sold, it is no longer available that week.

Aside from face-to-face, the phone is our preferred way to communicate with our customers. We do our best to answer the phone when you call, however, if we are dealing with customers, or otherwise occupied, then we may not be able to answer. Please leave a voice message. As you can probably tell by the lack of on-line instructional videos and social media links, we prefer to keep things basic. We do check Email, but no more than once a day, and probably not on Saturdays. If you use Email, please be patient. We will get back to you, just not at break neck speeds.

Note: We make our sausage in small batches as we feel that this helps maintain the highest quality. If we sell out of any sausage we will make more so long as we have the ingredients on hand.

Custom Orders: You can request any recipe (ours or yours) at any time. For these custom orders, there is a five pound minimum order.
